Neotibicen tibicen, commonly known as the Eastern cicada or the dog-day cicada, is a large insect belonging to the family Cicadidae. It is found in eastern North America and is known for its distinctive buzzing sound, which is produced by the males to attract mates. The Eastern cicada has a black body with greenish markings and transparent wings. It has a life cycle of several years, spending most of its life underground as a nymph before emerging as an adult to mate and lay eggs.
